$20 ‘Call Of Duty’ Gun Includes A Fun Easter Egg For Fans

Released in November 2023, the newest installment of the Call of Duty franchise, Modern Warfare III, has been met with mixed reviews from both fans and critics. Although many have enjoyed the technical upgrades the game has brought to the franchise, many thought the campaign’s storyline alongside the zombie mode to be disappointing compared to previous entries.

This game, developed by Sledgehammer Games, was initially meant to be an expansion to 2022’s Modern Warfare II but had enough content to become its own sequel title. Similar to the monetary model of other FPS games, MWIII, allows players to buy gun cosmetics using in-game “Call of Duty Points,” which are purchasable via microtransactions.

The cosmetics usually come within purchasable packages, with the new “Tracer Pack: Insert Coin Mastercraft” pack, released on January 5, having a submachinegun skin that has opened discussions online due to a special event that occurs when the weapon is inspected. The skin, “Arcade Rhythm,” has a special easter egg where the player is greeted to an animation of their character looking directly at a screen on the side of the gun that reads “Update Requires Restart” after a short loading bar appears when booted on.

This prompt is a reference to the annoying prompt that PC fans of the franchise have become well accustomed to as since 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot, this message has greeted fans, sometimes during gameplay, whenever their game needs to update. With this game rebooting pop-up becoming a meme amongst the community, the game’s publisher, Activision, has decided to implement an official reference to it within the new title.

Upon seeing the prompt on the SMG, the player will then see their character frantically smashing buttons on the screen, angered regarding its update. Outside of this action, the gun has artistically pleasing pixel effects when being shot and turns enemies into several small green blocks when killed by it, giving the skin a nostalgic touch.

The package that the SMG cosmetic comes from is being sold for 2,400 COD Points, which is about $20.
