After Streamer Asmongold Is Banned Once More For Comments About ‘Illiterate Third Worlders,’ Debate About Political Discourse On Twitch Rages

Twitch streamer Asmongold, whose real name is Zack Hoyt, got banned from the platform for a week in April. The ban has touched off a spirited debate about political commentary on streaming platforms.

The name Asmongold has no meaning – it was made up by a neighbor when Hoyt was eight years old.

On April 6, the same day he was notified of his ban, Asmongold took to X to write:

“Banned for an entire week because I said I don’t give a f— about the opinions of illiterate third worlders. Would someone be banned for saying they don’t care about what an American’s opinion is on the Middle East? Of course not. Blatant double standard, I didn’t break ToS.”

This revelation predictably led to a lot of online arguing as people shared their thoughts about this controversial streamer and his inflammatory statements.

Asmongold is already familiar with this kind of exile from Twitch, as in October 2024, he was similarly banned after sharing his thoughts on the Palestinians.

This time, he ranted:

“I’m not going to cry a f—ing river when people who have genocide that’s baked into their laws are getting genocided. I don’t give a f—. They’re terrible people… These people are not your allies. They are not the same as us. They come from an inferior culture that is horrible, it kills people for their identity and it is directly antithetical to everything Western values stand for, and it is an inferior culture in all ways. It is that simple. No, I don’t feel bad for them. I don’t feel sorry for them. I don’t care. I don’t support them.”

He expressed some remorse later on, however, as on October 15, he posted on X:

“Looking back on it, I was way too much of an a–hole about the Palestine thing. My bad. Of course, no one deserves to have their lives destroyed, even if they do things or have views I find regressive. You guys deserve more than me saying stupid s– like that, I’ll do better.”

He followed up by writing:

“I don’t mind apologizing if it’s something I think I’m actually wrong about. Given the number of times I’ve gotten hate for things and never apologized, it should be proof enough of that.”

Will the gamer-turned-commentator go for a three-peat and get banned for a third time?
