An Old Foe Returns In The ‘Helldivers 2’ Omens Of Tyranny Patch

A third enemy faction joins the battlefield in Helldivers 2 as part of a new update, but these enemies may be a little familiar to Helldivers fans of old.

The Omens of Tyranny patch is out now in Helldivers 2, and gamers are thrilled to finally be challenged with a new faction of alien enemies. As it turns out, these “new” enemies are actually old foes from the original Helldivers game.

The Illuminate have returned in Helldivers 2 but, this time, they are on the offensive with the power of mind control. Based on the original Helldivers game, the Illuminates’ civilization was completely wiped out by the Helldivers a hundred years ago. Now, they’re back with a vengeance and have learned to corrupt the minds of Helldivers through mind control to create the Voteless – possessed Helldivers that fight against their own. This could be Arrowhead Studios’ way of setting up for an in-game civil war, which fans have been hoping for.

With the Voteless and the Illuminate lurking around every corner, Helldivers will be engaging in combat at close-quarters in blocked off areas that will leave them nowhere to run or hide. Luckily, the Omens of Tyranny patch also introduces the Fast Recon Vehicle (FRV) tool, which allows for up to four players to ride together through the urban streets that have been damaged by the attacks. The FRV is just one of the first arsenal upgrades to be introduced in this update as it seems that there will be more new tools where that came from.

Perhaps the biggest gameplay improvement to come out of the Omens of Tyranny patch is that players can finally rejoin their most recent match after a crash. This is a relief to many gamers as there is nothing more frustrating than having to start over after getting completely kicked from a good match with your buddies. In addition to this, Helldiver and sentry gun armor is now more resistant to catching on fire, a handful of weapons have been buffed, and Automation Reinforced Scout Striders will now spawn less frequently.
