Nintendo wowed fans of the Animal Crossing series with a Nintendo direct presentation announcing a new paid DLC and a huge free update that will be coming to the newest entry on the Switch on Nov. 5. Between both pieces of content, Nov. 5 will mark the largest amount of content ever added into the game since launch, but unfortunately, it might be the last.
During the presentation, Nintendo revealed that the 2.0 update will be the last major free piece of content coming to the game. This gave fans hope that more paid content might make its way into the title in the future, but it seems like that won’t be happening either.
IGN has reported that Nintendo has no plans for any more major updates following the Nov. 5 update. Following the release of the expansion, Nintendo only plans to support the title with “small updates.”
This news has come as a surprise to fans who expected content to be added for years to come due to the game’s massive success. The game has sold over 33 million units, making it the second best-selling game on the Switch.
Nintendo has yet to make a public statement about the future of the title, but this would fit the normal pattern for their releases, which usually only receive a small number of updates or DLC before being considered complete.
Some fans are casting doubt on IGN‘s statements, saying that they might have misunderstood and that Nintendo was trying to say that no more free content will be coming.
