Tech giant Apple might be planning to create their own gaming console, according to Windows Central reporter Jez Corden.
Corden recently appeared on an episode of the Xbox Two Podcast where he confirmed that he’s heard rumors that Apple has begun developing a gaming console and that they might be “poaching” designers from Microsoft‘s Xbox team to make it happen.
The specifics of this potential console are currently unknown. Corden claims that he has heard several different rumors about what kind of console it might be, with some stating that it might be VR-oriented. He also went on to say that Apple is constantly trying new things, so there is no guarantee that this project will ever see the light of day, but that he has enough evidence to believe that it’s currently being worked on.
This news comes shortly after it was announced that Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard for $70 billion, causing many to voice concerns over potential concerns over the consolidation of the video game industry. With Microsoft making very big acquisitions, it could potentially spur other tech giants to get involved and make big moves of their own.
Currently, the only major console manufacturers are Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony, known as the “big three,” so Apple getting involved could be a big shift for the industry.
