‘Assassin’s Creed Black Flag’ Story Continues As Edward Kenway Returns in Forgotten Temple

Fans of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag have another chance to return to the world of Edward Kenway, with the pirate-turned-Assassin’s story continuing beyond Ubisoft’s acclaimed 2013 game.

The continuation comes in the form of Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple, a webtoon created through a collaboration between Ubisoft and Webtoon. Rather than being a new Black Flag video game, the series expands Edward Kenway’s story in comic form.

Set in 1725, several years after the events of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Forgotten Temple follows Edward as he travels through Southeast Asia. His new journey involves mysterious Pieces of Eden and introduces new allies and enemies while continuing the broader Assassin-Templar mythology.

The webtoon originally began publication in April 2023 and ultimately ran for 151 episodes, concluding in March 2026. That makes the project one of the more substantial continuations of an Assassin’s Creed protagonist outside the mainline games.

Edward Kenway remains one of the franchise’s most recognizable protagonists. Black Flag, released in 2013, combined traditional Assassin’s Creed exploration with an extensive open-world pirate setting and naval combat. The game follows Edward during the Golden Age of Piracy and connects his story to both the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order.

The timing is particularly notable because Ubisoft has also brought Black Flag back to the spotlight with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a rebuilt version of the original game. The remake retains Edward’s Caribbean adventure while introducing updated visuals and gameplay systems.

For longtime fans, the combination of Resynced and Forgotten Temple gives the franchise’s most popular pirate protagonist renewed attention. While players should not mistake the webtoon for a newly announced Black Flag sequel, it does provide something many fans have wanted for years: a canonical continuation of Edward Kenway’s story.
