CD Projekt Red Might Be Including Multiplayer In ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Sequel, Developers Tease New Concepts For Future Projects

The 2020 release of CD Projekt Red’s highly anticipated game Cyberpunk 2077 has been notable as one of the most disastrous releases in the modern gaming era. With unpolished graphics and several bugs upon release, the game has led many in the field of development to use it as a lesson in overhyping fans in marketing and not hitting your scope goals before release.

After three years and bug patches and the release of the successful expansion pack, Phantom Liberty, to bring back fans, the Developers are hard at work to use what they learned from the first game for its sequel, while adding more content to further innovate the series.

One of its more contentious design concepts is the rumored addition of multiplayer to the franchise’s second game.

This comes from a comment made in an interview with company co-CEO, Michal Nowakowski, teasing that the studio has been looking into options in incorporating multiplayer options into their projects. The Polish developer did not disclose further details regarding this statement but fans believe that the studio is considering this idea for the upcoming Cyberpunk game.

Despite the terrible response to its launch, the game has garnered a massive fanbase in part due to an anime series based on the game’s world, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, releasing on Netflix in 2022. By October of last year, it had sold over 25 million units with Phantom Liberty selling 5 million after three months of release. With its rising fanbase, fans are excited for the new game title, though skeptical of the quality of the multiplayer inclusion, wanting the studio to focus more on improving the previous game’s issues.

CD Projekt co-CEO, Adam Badowski, had stated in an interview that Nowakowski mentioned the company’s plans for multiplayer capability, and that the company has “better control of the game production process” after the first game’s terrible launch.
