‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Won’t Require 200 GB To Download

If there’s one thing many console players have feared over the past few years, it’s space. Not just “how much space will the next video game console take up in my room,” but “how much Hard Drive space will the next game I buy take up?” A lot of games for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC take up a lot of memory, usually between 10 to 50 gigs on the hard drive and micro SD Card. Making matters even worse is whenever a game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will take around 200 gigs to download, plus the enormous patches that Activision releases.

With most external hard drives costing nearly $100, it’s easy to see why gamers were worried about how much memory CD Project Red’s upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077, would take up. Over on Reddit, many fans were speculating that Cyberpunk could take up to 200 gigs of memory to download to your systems hard drive. This came just after the Nvidia’s RTX 30 series reveal, where a screenshot of Cyberpunk 2077 was shown when talks of games taking up 200 gigs come up during the presentation.

Thankfully, that won’t be the case. CDPR’s Community Lead, Marcin Momot, addressed on Twitter that the game will not take up to 200 gigs of space. While no exact specs were given, Momot said that players can expect “the required HDD space to be on par with other modern titles,” and that full system requirements are “coming soon.” So, while it’s not a 100% confirmation that Cyberpunk won’t be like 100 gigs, it’s still a relief that it won’t take up so much space when compared to games like Final Fantasy VII Remake or even the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on November 17, 2020, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC. Those who purchase the current-gen versions will receive the next-gen versions for free.
