‘Dark Souls’ Creator Teams Up With George R.R. Martin To Create New ‘Elden Ring’

During the Microsoft panel at E3, creator of the fantastic Dark Souls series, Hidetaka Miyazaki, teased at a new project they were working on called Elden Ring. With limited info released so far, we do know that this game will combine the intense, thrill-seeking horror from the Dark Souls creators, combined with an open-world experience. The developers had a little help as well, as for the mythos and overall story of the game, Miyazaki and his team reached out to the critically-acclaimed A Song of Ice and Fire author and Game of Thrones creator, George R.R. Martin.

“This title focuses more heavily on RPG elements,” said game director Miyazaki, according to Polygon. “This title will include a wide variety of weapons, magic, and ways to engage enemies, that make it possible to provide users with a style of gameplay and strategy that suits them.”

Martin is one of the most famous world builders of this generation, creating complex characters within fascinating environments in a unique, fantasy world.

“This mythos proved to be full of interesting characters and drama along with a plethora of mystical and mysterious elements as well,” Miyazaki said, according to Polygon. “It was a wonderful source of stimulus for me and the development staff.”

“Collaborating with George R.R. Martin to create the Elden Ring mythos has been a genuinely delightful experience and a source of wonderful inspiration,” Miyazaki said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “The team is working hard to ensure that the world of Elden Ring will be a fascinating place for players to explore, filled with peril and wonder from its furthest reaches to its lowest depths. This is a FromSoftware title through and through, rich in fantasy and RPG action. We sincerely hope you look forward to it.”

Elden Ring is set to be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and the PC. The release date has yet to be confirmed.
