‘Fable 4’ Will Now Release In 2026 – Its Trailers May Reveal Important Details

The release for Fable 4 has recently been delayed from later this year until 2026. Although delays are never a great sign, we can only hope that this one is going to allow for a near perfect final product since this game has been highly anticipated for so long. Based on what is known so far about the game and what we’ve seen from trailers, here’s what we can expect when we return to Albion.

Starting with the basics, we know that Fable 4 is being developed by Playground Games, the same developer responsible for the Forza Horizon game series. The RPG will utilize both Unreal Engine and Playground Games’s in-house engine, Forza Tech. Despite production being delayed, there is talk of a detailed alpha build for Fable 4 which supposedly has gameplay similar to The Witcher 3’s combat system.

Most of what we know about Fable 4 does come from the trailers. There are two cinematic trailers for the game so far, the first of which was presented in 2023 at the Xbox Games Showcase. This trailer is presented in a mockumentary style as it interviews a giant named Dave, a “Vegetable Enthusiast” who talks about hero culture and his distaste for it as he proclaims “the age of heroes is over.”

The second cinematic trailer, which was released during the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, is also in a mockumentary style as we meet Humphry, the retired “Greatest Hero” of Albion. His take on heroes is a bit more complicated as he reveals that being a hero is about “the choices you make” and the “life and death stuff.”

Both trailers offer us glimpses of gameplay from a more cinematic lens as we can see a young woman – presumably a hero – engaging with townsfolk, exploring the wilderness, using some magic and wielding a large sword.

At the end of both of these trailers, Dave and Humphry are interrupted by this young woman. Based on the trailers alone, it is possible that she is going to be the main character of Fable 4. This could mean that there will not be a character customization option in the game, but nothing is confirmed yet. Based on their dialogue though, it seems that we may be entering a game where the “hero” is a controversial figure. Perhaps this is a hint into the game’s plot.

One detail of the game that is more or less guaranteed is that Fable 4 will launch on Xbox Series X and PC, but it’s unlikely that it will ever release on PlayStation. The intellectual property of the Fable series is owned by Microsoft, so it stands to reason that it will be an exclusive game to their consoles when we finally get to play in 2026.
