Fans Worry ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Could Cost $100 – Or More

Grand Theft Auto Six, or GTA 6 as it is commonly shortened to, is no longer this unseen wonder in the gaming sphere. Players have been given solid info on the story, graphics, and setting from the trailers released by Rockstar Games. If the impact of and gap between its predecessor in GTA 5 is anything to go by, his game is set up to be one of the biggest – if not the biggest game of the decade. However, with the 13-year-long build-up between games and cutting-edge visuals, the question remains. What will GTA 6 cost?

Not too long ago, the gaming community was in the midst of heated controversy due to increase in game prices with Nintendo’s launch of the Switch 2. Seventy-dollar games went from being reserved for special releases to being the new standard. And with games like Mario Kart World being priced at $80, this raises concern for GTA 6. Rockstar has reported that the budget for this game is $1 billion.

In an industry where budgets for AAA games are ballooning to hundreds of millions of dollars, GTA 6 looks to dwarf its competition. For comparison, Cyberpunk 2077‘s budget is only half of that amount. And GTA 6‘s hype is another reason for potential concern. To describe it as an anticipated release would be an understatement. With the massive success of GTA 5 and the subsequent 13-year gap between installments, GTA 6‘s existence itself became a meme, with people commonly joking about things that happened before Rockstar released GTA 6.

So with a game that is technically advanced, with a high budget, eager for an audience, and practically guaranteed return on investment, what’s stopping Rockstar from jacking up the price? People have speculated prices up to $100 before taxes. While only Rockstar can make that call, there’s a very high likelihood people won’t be paying the usual $60 to experience Grand Theft Auto 6.
