‘FIFA 23’ Is Set To Be The Biggest Yet, What Changes Can We Expect

EA’s license with FIFA is set to expire after this year, so the longtime partners say that they’re gearing up to make this year’s edition of the popular franchise the biggest one yet. There are a few new changes coming to the FIFA series, and FIFA 23 will be the culmination of it all. Here’s what we know.

A Club Returns

Fans of the team Piemonte Calcio will be upset as the real namesake of the Italian club will be making a return to FIFA. After three years with an exclusive partnership with developer Konami for the PESA soccer series, Juventus will come back to FIFA for their last season with Electronic Arts. According to a statement, Juve’s new partnership with EA will not just be within the video game realm, but the two will “work across a number of lifestyle and cultural initiatives bringing new opportunities outside of football.”

New Gameplay

HyperMotion 2 is a new gameplay engine that is primed to make FIFA 23 one of the most enjoyable editions yet. 6,000 new animations have been added, leading to tighter dribbling, more balanced acceleration, better motion on set pieces, better blocking, more realistic keeper movements and a more realistic feel to the game overall. There is also new a new power shot mechanic added, which adds a lot more pizzazz and excitement to the overall feel of the game. Plus, they have added in both women’s and men’s matches.

Women’s Matches Added

Women’s matches have been available for the last few editions of the game, however, FIFA 23 will add two domestic female leagues. The Women’s Super League in England and the Division 1 Feminine in France will be available to be played. This as well as both men’s and women’s World Cups will be added. The new edition will pack in 19,000 players, 700 teams, 100 stadiums and 30 leagues.

FIFA Teams Renamed and Removed

Although Italian side Juventus returns for a run with EA, four other Italian clubs will be renamed due to deals with Konami. AS Roma becomes Roma FC, Atalanta becomes Bergamo Calcio and Lazio will become Latium. Napoli will also be renamed due to its exclusive deal with the PES developers, however, that name has not yet been revealed.

Another major change includes the removal of all Russian teams from FIFA 23. After EA removed Russian clubs, players, kits and national teams from FIFA 22 in March following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, EA is doubling down by not including any Russian teams in FIFA 23.

In a statement, Electronic Arts said, “EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine. In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports will not include the Russian national team or Russian clubs in FIFA 23.”

There is surely more news to come for FIFA 23. The game will be released on September 30.
