‘God Of War: Laufey’ Reveals Faye’s Serpent’s Bow As Pre-Orders Open

Santa Monica Studio has given fans a closer look at combat in God of War: Laufey, revealing a new weapon for the game’s protagonist, Faye, alongside pre-order details and a Digital Deluxe Edition. Pre-orders open on Tuesday, ahead of the game’s Feb. 16, 2027, launch on PlayStation 5.

A New Protagonist

God of War: Laufey marks a major shift for the franchise. Instead of Kratos, players take control of his late wife, Faye, also known as Laufey, the mother of his son, Atreus. Her death sets the events of 2018’s God of War in motion, as Kratos and Atreus journey to scatter her ashes from the highest peak in the nine realms.

The new game follows Faye after her death as she fights to survive and liberate the Everywhen, the gods’ afterlife. Sony first revealed it during its State of Play showcase in June.

The Serpent’s Bow

According to a PlayStation Blog post, Faye will wield a mythical bow called the Serpent’s Bow alongside her sword. It gives her a ranged option for keeping enemies at a distance.

The bow is designed to be quick enough that players can weave arrow shots into melee combos. Short clips on the blog show Faye launching enemies into the air, hitting them with a rapid burst of arrows, then picking her sword combo back up.

Holding down the fire button charges up precision shots, which can target enemy weak points to slow their movement and blunt their attacks. Charged shots also let Faye fire up to five arrows at once.

Faye will have access to several arrow types, including rapid-fire, explosive and multi-targeting options. Players can also customize the bow with equippable scales that change both its look and its performance.

The emphasis on archery nods to the series’ history. In the recent Norse-era games, Atreus fought primarily with a bow, a weapon Faye taught him to use.

Pre-Order Bonuses

Players who pre-order God of War Laufey will receive:

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes:

Players can also unlock the Dark Alchemy items through story progression. Sony has not yet listed a price for the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Series Background

The God of War franchise debuted in 2005 and was reinvented with its 2018 soft reboot, which moved Kratos from Greek to Norse mythology. That game and its 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarök, were both critical and commercial hits for PlayStation.

God of War: Laufey is the first mainline-style entry in the series to center on a protagonist other than Kratos.
