‘GTA VI’ Leaks And So Does ‘GTA V’ Source Code

It may be old news by now that GTA VI was leaked, and various clips spread across the internet in the biggest gaming leak in years, but now we know that the source of the leaks is a hacker using the username “teapotuberhacker.”

Taking responsibility for the attack, the hacker took to a GTA fan forum and uploaded a file with dozens of confidential videos. On top of taking responsibility for the attacks on Rockstar, the individual also claimed that he was behind the Uber hacks.

Rockstar released a statement confirming the hack as well as putting fans at ease.

“At this time, we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects.”

The leaked footage did not amount to much being shown off of the next Grand Theft Auto, though even with assurances from the developers there are rumors that this could hold up development.

It has been revealed that the motive for the cyber-attack was an attempt at extorting the gaming company. According to London Police, a teenage hacker has been arrested. There are some concerns that the hacker is only one part of a much larger group of extortionists.

Some more recent news, that may be even worse for Rockstar is that the GTA V source code has apparently been stolen, along with the source code for GTA Online.

It is thought that the hacker “Teapot” may have sent out the codes prior to his arrest. Posts from the messaging app Telegram seem to indicate that sale. “GTA 5 Source Code to sell, only serious offers to: @_ – he bought the source code from Teapot on the first day,” read the message.

The person posting has yet to be identified, so this is still just a rumor, though a dangerous one if true. This could prove to be a major issue for Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two as their largest money maker at the moment could become seriously compromised.

As of now, the teenage hacker has pled not guilty, and Rockstar has yet to comment on the GTA V source code leak.
