Kojima Productions Likely To Announce New Game Soon

After the masterful dance with despair, Death Stranding, in 2019, players the world over have been eyeing the newly-formed Kojima Productions game studio to see  what video game legend Hideo Kojima has planned next. After years of restorative silence, the dragon may be rising again, as long-time Kojima collaborator and art studio director at Kojima studios Yoji Shinkawa said in a recent interview that the studio’s new game will likely be coming soon.

“Well yeah, I am doing something, for sure, and I could tell you probably that we can announce it quite soon,” Shinkawa said to AI Hub.

Shinkawa’s remarks come after Kojima Productions hired a new slate of employees in October of 2020, gearing up for a new project. The few hints Kojima himself has dropped about his upcoming project are that he “has been watching a lot of horror movies” in preparation, and that he’d like to make a “revolutionary” new horror game.

Long-time Kojima fans will remember that the last project he released at his former company Konami was a horror demo co-led by famed director Guillermo del Toro. Under the guise of a fake studio, Kojima and del Toro released PT in 2015. PT is remembered by those lucky enough to have played the game, as a cerebral horror pin-pick into the heart of tension. Kojima’s bosses at Konami, however, shut down PT and shelved any future plans from him after the company changed its focus away from video games.

The short PT was only a taste of what Kojima and del Toro had in mind for a full game. Knowing that the two minds have been hard at work on another horror project shows that Kojima, the company-man turned indie, cannot be deterred.
