Marvel Releases First ‘Eternals’ Trailer

Marvel has just released its first trailer for Eternals. The two-minute teaser gives us a first full look into the film, which is set to premiere in November. This film also marks the first entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe by director Chloé Zhao. Zhao recently won an Oscar for her directing in Nomadland.

The trailer does not go into extreme depth regarding the plot of the film, but gives us background on Eternals and shows off the varied cast of characters.

The trailer hints at the scope and origin of the film. “We have watched and guided. We have helped them progress and seen them accomplish wonder,” explains Ajak, who is played by Salma Hayek. She is seemingly referring to humans with this statement, as the trailer shows human civilization progress throughout the years. “Throughout the years, we have never interfered- until now,” continues Ajak. The event that has spurred them to finally intervene is left a secret. Many fans have speculated that perhaps Thanos’ snap has caused this, with many others in disagreement with this theory.

Eternals additionally features a diverse cast full of recognizable stars. Members include Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Salma Hayek, Kit Harrington, Angelina Jolie, Don Lee and Barry Keoghan. Game of Thrones fans will be excited to see Harrington and Madden, who were stars on the show. The cast has also been highlighted as it is one of the most diverse to be featured in a Marvel film.

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president, has expressed that Gemma Chan’s character is the main focus of the film in his mind.  Feige also discussed Zhao’s directing, elucidating that the film will feature her “signature style.” Zhao even tested that Eternals could stretch “further and bigger” than any Avengers movie, building high expectations for this new film.

Marvel will look to capture audiences with a brand new plot and character list in Eternals. Many view this as a similar challenge to that which Guardians of the Galaxy faced at its release, as the public was not familiar with the new characters. The movie is planned to drop on November 5. Until then, the speculation and anticipation will continue for this exciting new film.
