‘Marvel’ Rivals Backpedals On PVP Decisions

If there’s anything PVPers are in love with more than their prowess, it’s being able to prove it. In the case of Marvel Rivals, game developer NetEase, recently backpedaled violently on its decision to reset mid-season rankings after significant backlash. Players would drop four ranks under the dev’s decision, leaving them cursing NetEase’s name. Ranking takes up enough time as it is, and not everyone has the free time to rank.

One dev diary explained it this way, “For example, if you ended the first half of Season 1 at Diamond 1, you’ll start the second half at Platinum 2.” Each ranking season in Marvel Rivals also costs the player six divisions at every season’s reset. The big hit to ranking was more than enough to hit the ranking-pros egos. After all, I’d be angry at the devs if they lowered my rank for no reason.

Less than 14 hours later, NetEase relented due to overwhelming feedback. The developers listened to their fans. There are now two parts to this season of Marvel Rivals and fans can rejoice at keeping their ranks.

It’s not the only problem the developers face, though. Marvel Rivals has become so popular that there are even data-mined leaks of future heroes. I’m personally a fan of Jean Grey, Emma Frost, Professor X, Gambit, Rogue, Deadpool, Ghost Rider and Blade. NetEase said the data-mined leaks were real, though nothing was final yet. If Ghost Rider is released, his penitence stare better be on the list of abilities.

“We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission!” NetEase said, further confirming their support of the game and its community. I know what I’ll be watching.
