McDonald’s Australian branch recently announced that they would give away 50 custom, McDonald’s-themed Dualsense Playstation 5 controllers. This giveaway was part of a special week meant to celebrate the 50th anniversary of McDonald’s arrival in Australia. This giveaway will not occur, however, as Sony intervened to prevent the release of these controllers.
McDonald’s Australia revealed that Sony did not allow for this giveaway ahead of time, causing them to cancel and remove the controllers from the giveaway.
“Sony PlayStation has not authorized the use of its controller in promotional materials related to the proposed Stream Week event and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. McDonald’s Stream Week has been postponed and Sony PlayStation controllers will not be included in the giveaway,” a spokesman for McDonald’s Australia stated.
The controllers featured a red, yellow and white color scheme. A McDonald’s logo, a bucket of fries and burger were also stamped on the limited-edition controller. This design received a mixed reception among the gaming community, with some gamers in favor while others expressed their discontent with the wacky design.
“Unfortunately, McDonald’s Stream Week has been postponed and won’t be going ahead this Sunday. We are unable to confirm a new date for the proposed event at this time. We will have some great prizes including Macca’s 50th Birthday Hoodies and 50 channel subscriptions for each streamer to give away. We will be in contact with the new timing as soon as we have it confirmed,” the company stated.
Sony only sells the DualSense controllers in three official colorways: white, Cosmic Red and Midnight Black. There are custom PS5 controllers available for sale, but they are not sanctioned by Sony.
For now, these McDonald’s Playstation 5 controllers will not be available to the public.
