Metroid II: Retrun of Samus and Metroid: Samus Returns (Nintendo)
The Nintendo Switch has seen nearly all of the Wii U’s biggest games ported over to the hybrid system. Games like Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 have been re-released on the Switch with Super Mario 3D World set to be released in February 2021. But, one of the last major releases on the 3DS may be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Over on the official Nintendo online store, the company has shown off some Super Metroid skins you can place on your Switch.
In one of the images, we see a Nintendo Switch playing what seems to be Metroid: Samus Returns. Released in 2017, Samus Returns was a 3D reimagining of the 1991 Game Boy game (Metroid II: The Return of Samus). It was the first original Metroid game since 2010’s divisive Metroid: Other M, with the only other game released in the franchise being the multiplayer 3DS spin-off, Federation Force. With Nintendo already bringing a laundry list of the Wii U’s games to the Switch, it’s not unlikely for the company to re-release the 3DS game on their latest system.
Asides from Samus Returns, other Metroid projects Nintendo is currently working on Metroid Prime 4, with developer Retro Studios working on the game after Nintendo restarted development.
