It’s always a sad time whenever someone exits the games industry. Last week, Rayman and Beyond Good and Evil creator Michel Ancel announced his retirement from the games industry on Instagram. “After more than 30 years, I’ve decided to stop working on video games and fully focus on my second passion: Wild Life!” Ancel wrote in his Instagram post. “My new project takes place in the real world and consists of a wildlife open sanctuary dedicated to education, nature lovers, and … wild animals.”
Before this announcement, Ancel worked on the upcoming sequel to Beyond Good and Evil for Ubisoft and Wild for Wild Sheep Studios. Ancel assured fans that those games are on track, even without his involvement. “Many of you might want to know what will happen to Wild and BGE2. No worries, for many months now the teams are autonomous and the projects are going super well. Beautiful things to be seen soon.”
Beyond Good and Evil was first released on November 11, 2003, and was met with critic acclaim. The upcoming sequel was announced back in 2008. In 2014, Ancel announced the pre-historic survival game, Wild, was in development from his independent studio, Wild Sheep Studios.
We here at Ugames.TV wish Ancel the best of luck with his upcoming endeavors.
