NBA 2K21
NBA 2K21 hasn’t received the best reception. Despite it being one of September’s best-selling games, the game received mixed critical reviews, with much of the negative evaluation coming from technical issues and the inclusion of aggressive microtransactions. This was especially true with fans, who have recently vented their frustrations with the new inclusion of advertisements in NBA 2K21.
Over the weekend, a YouTube video from the website Stevior presented some of the ads, which includes a promotional for the upcoming Oculus Quest 2. “They’re unskippable, attached to a pre-game video called “MyTEAM Season 2, Episode 7,” according to news writer Luke Lawrie. “That’s auto-started in a loading screen that takes longer than the ad runs (even on a PC running from an SSD),” meaning that even the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X won’t be able to skip these segments.
Over on the official Reddit page of NBA 2K, many users have been airing out their grievances in a subreddit on the subject. This isn’t even the first time that the NBA 2K series came under-fire for this, as last year’s game also included ads but were removed shortly after their inclusion. Both EA and Capcom were also criticized for including ads in their games, such as Street Fighter 5 and UFC 4, before the publishers removed them after fan backlash.
NBA 2K21 is currently available for PS4, Xbox One and PC, with next-gen versions arriving on PS5 and Xbox Series X in November.
