Night Trap, an interactive movie, was a controversial game when it was released 25 years ago for the SEGA CD. Now, after we’ve all become desensitized to violence after countless Grand Theft Autos and Mortal Kombats, Night Trap – 25th Anniversary Edition is releasing in an era where it might – key word being might – be better appreciated.
The original version of the FMV game was developed by Digital Pictures. Here’s the otherworldly scenario gamers were presented with:
Night Trap tells the story of five teenage girls spending the weekend at the Martin home. As a member of the Special Control Attack Team, your job is to monitor the home and protect the girls using an intricate system of cameras and traps as it is being invaded by vampires.
Screaming Villains is remastering the title for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with the latter getting a hard copy via the aptly named Limited Run Games. Furthermore, the three covers are modeled after those from the original SEGA CD releases.
Spring 2017 is the release window, although no price has been stated at the moment.
Speaking as someone who values preserving historic pieces, I’m glad Night Trap is getting re-released; it’s a curio of a bygone genre, and soon anyone who wishes to experience it will be able to. Until then, you can download the game’s theme song over at Screaming Villains’ website.
So, will you partake in Night Trap?
