The Nintendo Switch has sold over 100 million units, officially placing beating out both the original PlayStation and Wii consoles in lifetime sales.
The console managed to reach the 100 million units sold milestone faster than the PlayStation 4 and the Wii, and has now outsold both.
The Nintendo Switch has still been going strong since its 2017 release and has no signs of slowing down. The console’s success was a much-needed boost for Nintendo after their last platform, the Wii U, only managed to sell 13 million units.
The semiconductor shortage has hurt their sales forecast for 2022 where they expect to sell another 23 million Switches, down from their previous estimate of 24 million.
In addition to record-breaking hardware sales, Nintendo’s software has been doing well on the platform with 13 games passing 10 million copies sold.
Nintendo has confirmed that it is working on a new console, but it seems like that console might still be a few years away since Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said that the console is only halfway through its lifespan.
