Insomniac Games is behind several of Sony‘s enduring series, such as Ratchet & Clank and Resistance. However, while now a fully-sanctioned first-party developer under Sony’s banner, the studio at one point experimented with developing titles for alternative platforms, of which the 2014 Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive is the most notable. Although Microsoft published the original title, Insomniac retained the rights to it, meaning that the property is also now under Sony’s charge.
Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s Worldwide Studios president, affirmed his company assumed ownership of the property in an interview with Japanese website Inside Games. According to Push Square’s translation, the Sony figurehead said, “SIE holds the rights to past Insomniac Games works.” When asked if a port of the game was in the cards, Yoshida responded by saying he’s “looking forward to future titles.” While that isn’t technically him saying no, it doesn’t sound as if Overdrive is coming to the PlayStation family anytime soon. Perhaps Insomniac’s next title will be a sequel to their 2018 hit Marvel’s Spider-Man?
