‘Stray’: The Futuristic Adventure Game Where You Play As A Cat

Stray will be the first game to be developed by BlueTwelve Studio. The third-person adventure game follows a cat through a strange world filled with robots as they try to reunite with its family. The game received a new trailer over the summer, providing a deeper dive into gameplay specifics.

The trailer explains that players will have to utilize the cat’s specific skill set to navigate a strange city. For instance, the cat is shown to drop a bucket into a large fan, allowing it to then pass through. The short gameplay walkthrough also introduces B-12, a small drone companion to the cat. B-12 will assist by interacting with objects and communicating with the residents of the city.

The trailer also showcases the running and evasion mechanics found in the game. These will be necessary to evade an array of dangers, including more than just the machine dwellers of the city. The trailer also teases weapon systems, which give the cat the ability to vanquish enemies.

“At its core, Stray is an adventure game,” wrote BlueTwelve producer Swann Martin-Raget in a Playstation Blog post. “It tells the story of a cat who accidentally falls into a weird, mysterious city and his journey to return to his family. Exploration is a key element and as we love to add lots of details to our environments, we hope players will enjoy looking for all the little bits of hidden lore that we’ve added across each level.”

BlueTwelve’s founders, known as Koola and Viv, had worked at Ubisoft before moving to independent development. The project that came to be known as Stray was originally called HK_Project. The pair eventually shared footage of their new game via Twitter. In April 2016, publisher Annapurna Interactive offered to publish the game. BlueTwelve Studios was created in the same year in order to begin producing the title. Stray was first announced on June 11, 2020, at a PlayStation event with an October 2021 release date. According to the most recent trailer, however, the game will now release in early 2022.

Stray will be available on PC, Playstation 4 and Playstation 5.
