Swen Vinke, Creative Director Of ‘Baldur’s Gate 3,’ Is Excited For Mysterious New Project

Swen Vinke, founder of the video gaming company Larian Studios, is excited about the potential of his newest project and is telling everyone, but not what it’s about.

In his post on X, he said that he has completed the first act and suspects “a lot” of the content will survive past the draft phase.

Considering Larian Studios’ recent success with Baldur’s Gate 3, things could be looking up for the studio. Vinke admitted that the content may never be used at all. Even so, he is optimistic and “genuinely excited about where this is going.”

In subsequent tweets, Vinke said, “This type of work can be frustrating when you’re stuck but the important bit is to never give up even if the situation looks hopeless.”

What could look hopeless when their latest game gained six awards out of their eight nominations? Could Vinke be looking to top their latest accomplishments?

Later in the thread of tweets, he mentioned, “work done on abandoned drafts is never wasted” and recycling work “once you find the right story for it.” Working off of that snippet, we can assume that it could be a new addition to their Divinity series.

Vinke could be looking to breathe new life into his original title with Larian’s increasing notoriety. Still, it could be something completely new; it could be something they couldn’t pin down in the past.

Some have referenced Vinke’s claim of working on a fishing game recently. Could it be a new RPG with a fishing system or a game completely devoted to fishing?

One thing to say for certain is that it’s unlikely to be a new DLC (downloadable content) for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Usually, DLCs include new items, quests and sometimes new arcs to the original storyline.

Bioware took the last option with their latest Dragon Age game, including Dragon Age: Inquisition – Trespasser. This took players to an extended conclusion to the game as a whole. However, the initial tweet includes “Act 1,” which means it will most likely be a new game instead of an extension of any previously completed work. That’s not to say that there won’t be any new DLCs for Baldur’s Gate 3. Currently, there is only one available. The only extension up to date includes a digital art book, music and TTRPG (tabletop role-play game) stat sheets for the game’s NPCs.

It’s hard to say if Vinke’s next project will be a new game, a continuation of Larian’s original series or if it will end up abandoned.

Whatever happens, players everywhere are willing to wait months for any more news. With their recent explosive success, Larian has a lot to live up to. However, a challenge can be what pushes Vinke to higher places.
