Fans have already seen Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay and didn’t even realize it. Rockstar Games has confirmed Trailer 2 was half cutscene, half gameplay and now people are trying to figure which is which.
Rockstar confirmed through a post that GTA 6 Trailer 2 was “captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.” The trailer was so cinematic that no one could tell the difference between the cutscenes and the gameplay.
Following that confirmation, the GTA 6 fan base became an almost forensic frame-by-frame analysis of the trailer. On the r/GTA6 subreddit, users have broken down each scene in the trailer, attempting to discern which parts are gameplay and which are cutscenes transitioning to gameplay. To date, there is no clear consensus among fans on what constitutes a cutscene transitioning to gameplay. Which, from a perspective dependent upon your expectations, could represent a serious disappointment or an incredible feat.
The road to what we are seeing today is very long. After a 13-year wait for an update that spans almost two generations of consoles, Grand Theft Auto V was the second-best-selling video game of all time, with over 225 million copies sold, making GTA 6 the most anticipated video game ever. After the first GTA 6 trailer came out at the end of December, it broke records as the most viewed video (non-music) on YouTube in the first 12 hours, with 46 million views, and also recorded the 3rd-highest viewed video of all time in 24 hours, with 93 million views.
GTA 6 will launch on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, after two delays. The first delay was in 2025 and then the second came in May 2026. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed the launch date and said that the full marketing campaign will begin in summer 2026.
After a long 13 years, a $3 billion development budget and two delays, GTA 6 is finally within reach. The wait is almost over.
