The Pokémon Company Announces Pikachu Jet BC

Skymark Airlines recently revealed on June 21 that they have collaborated with The Pokémon Company to create a Pikachu-themed jet called the “Pikachu Jet BC.” Skymark Airlines is a reduced-cost airline that is based in Japan.

The Pikachu Jet BC is a Boeing 737 that has been in operation for around two years. The plane made its first trip on June 21, 2021, at 3:35 p.m. JST. The plane traveled from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to Naha Airport, which is located in Okinawa Prefecture.

“We want everyone to look to the skies with a smile on their face, so we’ve come up with some new ways to put a spark in your journey with the PIKACHU JET,” reads a statement by Skymark Airlines.

This is part of an effort by The Pokémon Company that will encourage tourists to visit Okinawa Prefecture. Okinawa will also feature multiple Pokémon-themed events and attractions. Okinawa will paint monorails, buses and other public transportation with Pikachu art. The prefecture has also touted 12 man-hole coverings with Pokémon-inspired art on them. These will be hidden around the multiple tropical islands that compose Okinawa. This promotion will also include special in-flight merchandise for travelers.

Only domestic visitors will be able to travel to Okinawa for the time being due to Japan’s COVID-19 restrictions. This event will continue for at least a couple more years according to Nintendo Wire.

ANA was the last airline to feature a jet with Pokemon-centered art. ANA operated this jet until 2016 when the Pokemon art was removed.

The Pokémon Company has also hinted at further promotions with airlines such as Singapore’s Scoot.

Pokémon Go has also added a special Pikachu that dons a Kariyushi Shirt, along with a Shiny Corsola. The Kariyushi-wearing Pikachu is exclusive to Okinawa. The Shiny Corsola will be available in warm and tropical areas around the world, including Okinawa.
