Tom Clancy’s ‘Rainbow Six Siege’ Confirmed For PS5 & Xbox Series X

Game producer Ubisoft has officially entered the race to create games for next generation consoles. Release dates have not been locked in by Sony and Microsoft for their consoles, but both have promised a release around “holiday of 2020.” This likely means you’ll see the console, and Tom Clancy’s game drop at around the game time, at the end of the year.

Unfortunately for gamers, there hasn’t been a confirmed release date for the game yet. However, the game’s developers are not to blame. Leroy Athanassof, the Gaming Director for Rainbow Six Siege, was recently interviewed by Windows Central. Athanassof stated, “Why I can’t give you a date is because those dates are, in the end, on the people doing the next-gen consoles. What I can tell you is that we are going to be on [the consoles] from launch. When they will release the consoles; but it’s up to them to agree that. For Siege, our target is to be available right at launch.”

The game does want to be able to utilize cross-platform playing, which can be seen in games such as Rocket League and Fortnite. Ubisoft doesn’t want to exclude any console, so they plan on installing backwards-compatibility within the game. Once again, Athanassof and his company have their hands tied behind their backs. “Again, this is more a discussion between Microsoft and Sony,” Athanassof stated. “We would love to be fully cross-play — have Xbox players matchmaking against the PlayStation players. We are ready to support that. And hopefully, this will happen because as I said, it’s a general move in the industry, and there is nothing that can prevent that. It’s just a matter of time before it happens.”

Even back in 2019, backwards-compatibility was an anticipated feature for the franchise.

PC gamers will most likely not be getting the cross-compatibility feature. Only the most oblivious of gamers won’t know about the superiority of the PC. Since speed and hand-eye coordination are both increased by the computer, it would simply be unfair to next generation console owners to group them into matches with PC players.
