On Tuesday, Tony Hawk turned 52, and with that, the legendary skater made a major announcement – the first two Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games are being remastered so players will now be able to play the games on PS4, Xbox One and PC starting September 4.
The remastered version of the popular early-2000s will see updated visuals, as well as all of the original levels, characters and tricks. There will also be extra challenges and a more detailed create-a-park mode where players will be able to share their custom skate parks online. The new version of the games will also see a brand-new multiplayer mode which will allow players to play multiplayer online, not to mention the local multiplayer mode.
The remaster will be done by Vicarious Visions, which has a history with skating games as well as remaking games. According to company COO Simon Ebejer, it will not be a walk in the park to remaster the iconic games. “The challenge of a faithful remaster is knowing where to push the boundaries, and what to keep sacred. It’s important to capture the original experience.” Ebejer noted that the goal is to make the game feel like it takes place in 2020.
There are a lot of things for fans to look forward to with the remastering of the Pro Skater series, and Ebejer said it best regarding the series as a whole. “It’s timeless,” he said.
