Xbox Series S Won’t Support 4K Enhanced Titles For Backwards Compatibility

Microsoft has been upfront about the power of the Xbox Series S. While the Series X will have 4K visuals for all games (as well as 60FPS for existing titles), the Series S will only support 1440p and target 60FPS for all games on the system. Because of this disadvantage, don’t expect to be playing any of your older Xbox games to support any 4K enhancements. For those not in the know, the Xbox One X has a select number Original Xbox and Xbox 360 games run at native 4K and features improved texture work. However, in a statement given to Gamespew,  a spokesman for Microsoft told the website:

“Xbox Series S was designed to be the most affordable next-generation console and play next-generation games at 1440P at 60fps. To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster load times, and Auto HDR.”

The Xbox Series X and S are both set to launch on November 1o, with the X priced at $499 and the S priced at $299. Pre-Orders for both machines will be available starting September 22.
