A Pokémon Card Might Be The True Winner In Logan Paul-Floyd Mayweather Fight

Since the news first came out, the internet has been heating up the fight between the 23 million-sub YouTuber Logan Paul and the well-known aged pugilist Floyd Mayweather. However, the show this weekend was pathetically disappointing.

The fight was more like a hugging exhibition for the audience. Punches were soft, fists were slow and the actual stats of the game were superbly unremarkable. More frustratingly, there was no knockout in the fight, causing the tragic fight to persist eight rounds without an official winner.

That said, we might actually have a special winner in this fight: Paul’s first edition, Beckett-graded 10 (pristine) Charizard Pokémon card.

During the past year, the internet has started a new interest in Pokémon cards. Many Twitch streamers and YouTubers have been purchasing Pokémon boxes and unpacking them for the audience. The exponentially increasing demand outnumbered the supply, leading to the exploded prices of the Pokémon cards.

Last night, when Paul was entering the ring, he didn’t wear jewelry or golds but a shining, eye-catching Charizard card, one of the few highlights of the entire fight. The exposure to publicity infused more economic value to the asset, as Paul said after the fight.

“It’s a BGS 10 Charizard, first edition Charizard. It’s one of three in the world. It is my prized possession. Ever since I got this graded at a ten, the momentum in my life has been crazy. It’s my good luck charm,” he commented. “This is the card I walked out [with] to the Floyd Mayweather fight. This is a million-dollar card.”

Although no one can guarantee the credential of his words, this Charizard card was indeed one of the most entertaining moments last night. While Paul vs Mayweather might not be as enjoyable as other boxing matches, the fight surely impacted the Pokémon market in an unexpected way.
