Microsoft confirmed that their $70 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which owns Call of Duty and Candy Crush, will bring games to Xbox Game Pass.
Xbox Game Pass is a subscription that gives gamers access to a wide range of games, a similar set-up to Netflix.
There is no announcement of when the games will be added or exactly which games from the developer’s lengthy catalog will join Game Pass.
“Upon close, we will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as we can within Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from Activision Blizzard’s incredible catalog,” the official statement from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said.
It can also be assumed that the acquisition means that Activision Blizzard games will be Xbox exclusive moving forward. Most of the games are currently multi-platform, but the new games coming out, like Diablo IV and Overwatch 2, will probably be for the Xbox only. The only way newly released games will still be made for a variety of platforms is if they were already under contract.
There was a misunderstanding and some fans thought Starfield might come to PS5. Bethesda’s senior vice president of global marketing and communications Pete Hines quickly squashed the rumors.
“I don’t know how to allay the concerns of PlayStation 5 fans other than to say, well, I’m a PlayStation 5 player as well, and I’ve played games on that console, and there are games I’m gonna continue to play on it,” Hines said. “All I can really say is, ‘I apologize,’ because I’m certain that that’s frustrating to folks, but there’s not a whole lot I can do about it.”
