‘Anthem’ Development Ended By BioWare

In a blog post, the BioWare’s Austin, Texas studio director Christian Dailey announced there would be no future development or support for their game Anthem.

Dailey specifies that Anthem’s online service will continue to run “as it exists today.”

In February, Anthem‘s publisher EA sat down to discuss whether or not the game would continue to get support, and their decision has now become clear. Dailey also cites COVID-19 related remote working conditions as one of the most major factors in their decision to cease development.

“2020 was a year unlike any other however and while we continue to make progress against all our game projects at BioWare,” said Dailey. “Working from home during the pandemic has had an impact on our productivity and not everything we had planned as a studio before COVID-19 can be accomplished without putting undue stress on our teams.”

Dailey stresses that this decision did not come easily for himself, or his team saying, “Anthem is what brought me to BioWare, and the last two years have been some of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my career.”

Dailey gives BioWare fans some hope saying that the studio is now “laser focus[ed]” on upcoming Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles and also on providing updates for the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.
