Basic Development For ‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Is Finished

One of the biggest surprises from the last PlayStation 5 presentation was the reveal of Final Fantasy XVI. Not only is the latest installment coming exclusively to PS5, but we also won’t have to wait that long. Recently, Gematsu translated a new recruitment page on Square Enix of Japan’s Career website. “We have already completed basic development and scenario production and are continuing to create large-scale resources and build boss battles while expanding our various development tools,” the reads the website. The description also mentions that development is now proceeding remotely, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Gaming journalist Jason Schreier first mentioned remarks on Final Fantasy XVI‘s current stages of development on the Triple Click podcast, where he claimed that “I’ve heard from people who are familiar with the game’s development that it’s actually been in development for at least four years in some capacity, so it’s coming sooner than people think.”

What lies next for the upcoming installment in the beloved series is up in the air, but we’ll keep you updated on the latest news about Final Fantasy XVI.
