Early on Monday, rumors abounded that Bungie, the studio behind the Destiny series, was looking into being re-acquired by their previous owners, Microsoft. The tale of the creators of Halo coming back to Xbox first came to light during the GameBeat podcast, when its hosts were discussing a potential partnership between Microsoft and Bungie. Kinda Funny’s Imran Khan said, “I have heard they’ve had those talks, but like, the price is very high!” with GamesBeat’s Jeffrey Grubb adding, “they’ve fallen through repeatedly.”
Adding to the speculation were sources from Eurogamer saying that Microsoft has been “driven on Bungie’s side by a desire to raise new funds for the studio, its projects, and staff.”
But, when responding to Twitter User Nibel (who’s known for tracking and covering rumors and news in the games industry), Bungie CEO Peter Parson said that the claims were false.
Director of Global Public Relations for Bungie, Vanessa Vanasin, also chimed on Twitter, releasing the following statement:
“All of the info and speculation out there is not true. We are lucky to have a great relationship with our many friends over there who play Destiny, and Halo will always have a special place in our hearts.”
Destiny 2 is currently available for free on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
