Famous video game composer Yasunori Mitsuda has excited fans by stating that a new project of his should be announced soon.
Mitsuda took to Twitter to thank his fans for all of the birthday messages he received and said that his next project could be announced as soon as next month.
“Thank you so much for your birthday messages. I’m sorry I couldn’t reply to each person,” he wrote. “This thank you will be returned to you in the work 😀 At the earliest (if you are lucky), we will announce the first one next month, so please look forward to it!!!”
Mitsuda is known for lending his talent to many video games, so it’s impossible to know what project he is referring to, but two rumors have set the internet ablaze.
The first game that people are speculating might be announced is a remaster of the classic 1999 JRPG Chrono Cross. The game was listed in the now-famous GeForce leak, a list of video games from several different publishers discovered by data miners inside Nvidia’s GeForce Now service. The list has already been proven to be legitimate, and several games from it have already been confirmed to be real, however, the list also featured several placeholders, meaning not everything on the list is guaranteed to come to fruition.
Mitsuda composed the soundtrack for the original Chrono Cross, so it would make sense for him to return for its remaster. It could also make for a good announcement for Sony‘s 2022 lineup, as most of the big titles confirmed for the year are from Western developers.
The other title fans are hoping to see revealed is a new entry in the Xenoblade Chronicles series, which Mitsuda also worked on.
A new entry in the series has been rumored ever since 2020’s Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition left fans wanting more with a very open-ended conclusion. Video game insider Nate The Hate recently said that he believes a new entry in the series was supposed to release in 2022 but got pushed back to 2o23 due to covid. Doctor Who star Jenna Coleman, who played a character in the first game, also recently stated that she believes a third title is in development.
A new Xenoblade title would also line up with Nintendo‘s usual announcement schedule, with past Nintendo presentations haven taking place in February or March.
Since Mitsuda is a freelance composer, it is impossible to know for sure what project he is currently working on, but regardless something big will most likely be announced soon.
