‘Dragon Quest XII: The Flames Of Fate’ Official Announcement

Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate has been officially announced. Square Enix made the announcement on May 26 during a live stream special for the 35th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series.

Besides announcing the intention to release the game, not much information was given. The live stream only revealed the game’s logo and title. Yuji Hori, the creator of the series, spoke about possible alterations from the turn-based style that the series has featured in the past. Hori also stated that the game is planned to release simultaneously across the world. A release date and the launch platforms remain unannounced for the time being.

The stream also announced the planned international release of Dragon Quest III HD-2D, along with many other Japan-exclusive titles.

Dragon Quest is one of the most popular game series in Japan. The first installment was published in 1986. Since then, there have been 11 main-line games and several spin-offs. There have also been multiple manga, anime and novels created in relation to the games. The series was called Dragon Warrior in North America until 2002 due to copyright disputes. Square Enix finally registered the Dragon Quest title in North America in 2002.

The series has had a very notable influence on console role-playing games. In the games, the player controls a hero who must battle evil to save their land. The hero does this with the assistance of a party. The game is marked by turn-based combat, random encounters, and recurring enemies such as the “Slime,” which has become an icon in the series.

The last installment of the game to be released was Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The title came out in 2017 for Japan and 2018 for the rest of the world. This game was released on the Playstation 4 and 3DS in Japan before coming to PC and PS4 in the United States.
