Early-Access Release Of ‘Hades II’ Shows A Lot Of Potential For The Full Game

On May 5, the early access version of Supergiant Games’ upcoming game, Hades II, launched on Steam and the Epic Games Store for the PC. After being nominated at The Game Awards 2023 for “Most Anticipated Game,” players flocked to the newly released version without delay.

Much to everyone’s expectations, the rogue-like gameplay was further improved with more fluid attacks and the new weapons being well worth the player’s in-game currency boons. There has also been praise for the game’s new resource bar for attacks named “Magick,” which recharges at the start of each fight throughout the levels in the game, so players can reuse abilities more frequently that need “Magick,” which makes fighting more engaging.

However, the aspect of the early access title that most gamers have been the most excited about would be the other gods that players can interact with, as the new player character Melinoë, based on the Greek “Princess of the Underworld,” throughout the game. After receiving gifts gained from fighting enemies at various levels from the player, the Gods will support the Princess by giving her incantations or items in her quest to defeat Chronos, the god of time.

Hades II is a direct sequel to the 2020 rogue-like game from the same studio that has received several awards from various shows, such as the D.I.C.E. awards and the British Academy Games Awards. Despite production being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the indie studio was able to release the well-loved game to high acclaim from both critics and gamers for its power progression system and story elements involving the player’s interactions with the Greek gods.

Although the game is not complete yet, many are expecting  Hades II to be one of the “best games of the year,” with the indie studio Evil Empire delaying the release of their upcoming title, The Rogue Prince of Persia, upon seeing the success of Supergiant Games’ new release, not wanting it to overshadow their game.
