‘Elden Ring Nightreign’ Will Provide Non-Stop Action With Multiplayer Combat

The next installment of Elden Ring will bring players together for a fast-paced and combat-heavy co-op experience.

FromSoftware recently surprised Elden Ring fans with a new spin-off game, Elden Ring Nightreign, to be released sometime in 2025. As a spin-off game, it is not so much a sequel to the original game as a fun and fast-paced multiplayer game, but with all the thrilling battles and exploration of Elden Ring.

Elden Ring Nightreign has a simple formula. The game is played in sessions consisting of three in-game days and nights (each taking about 15 minutes) and begins with a group of three players spawning on a random map. The maps are essentially previously unseen pieces of Limgrave from Elden Ring. From here, players will decide which direction to take as they explore the map during the day, making note of any castles or other areas that should later be examined. 

As the day wears on and the night closes in, the map will also literally close in on the players. Going outside of the map after it closes in on you means that you will face the wrath of an acid-like rainfall that could be the death of you. Once the night settles in, it’s go time as a random boss will appear before your party inside the now confined space of the map. 

Because of the forced night-time battles, it is crucial that players spend their time during the day looting by harvesting runes and collecting weapons as they encounter castles and camps full of enemies. The goal here is to level up as quickly as possible to give you and your team the best odds of surviving the nightly boss battles (which will become more difficult each night). 

As far as dying and respawning goes, Elden Ring Nightreign is pretty gracious and gives players a “near-death” meter, offering them time to recover before they actually die. In this case, your teammates would attack you (you heard right) to restore your health. Though this may seem a little backward, it can actually be quite handy in cases where you have a teammate who can attack from long-range. If you ultimately kick the bucket, you can respawn during the day, but at night, you won’t be so lucky.

As far as playable characters go, Elden Ring Nightreign offers eight warriors to choose from, but only half of them are currently known to us. First, there is Wylder, who is an all-around type fighter with an even balance of speed and attack. Then there is the tank type, Guardian, a heavy attacker with strong defense. Recluse is a mage and can dish out magical attacks at various ranges, and Duchess is a fast attacker with quickstep abilities. Each character also has a specialty skill and ultimate move that are available when their timers permit and operate on a cool-down system.

Elden Ring Nightreign creates a unique and quick-paced gaming experience; it’s almost like a collaborative speed run between you and your two teammates. Though if you prefer to work alone, there will be a solo mode available, as of now, there are no plans for a two-player option.
