Facebook VR Could Be Signing With Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’ & ‘Splinter Cell’

Facebook seems to want to integrate themselves into the gaming world. According to The Information, they have reportedly signed deals with Ubisoft to procure exclusive entries in the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell series. These installments would be ran by Oculus and would be built around virtual reality. There isn’t a ton of concrete evidence surrounding The Information’s report, but Facebook seems to be venturing into the already developing VR world.

Ubisoft hasn’t released a Splinter Cell game since 2013; its last instatement was Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which received critical acclaim. The combination of gunplay and quick stealth made it all the more enjoyable. Now that Facebook and Oculus could be working on a VR game set in the Splinter Cell universe, that could be an exciting release.

To go off that, Ubisoft is known for their Assassin’s Creed series, making a multitude of games in it regularly. The game obviously takes place in third-person, so it’s unsure how Facebook and Oculus would make the game VR-worthy.

Ubisoft has already published multiple VR games, including Eagle Flight and Star Trek: Bridge Crew. They also have an open-world VR game called Stormland, which could be used as a reference when building the VR Assassin’s Creed world.

PlayStation VR and Sony seem to be following suit, with their big-time games such as Skyrim VR set in a medieval open-world, along with Dark Souls and Left 4 Dead.
Oculus Quest has been released by Facebook this year, a $399 wireless headset that is equipped with VR, that doesn’t need a PC in order to run. According to the Verge, Oculus Quest has multiplied Facebook’s sales projections, which are up 54 percent from last year’s reports.
It’ll be interesting to see how Facebook and Oculus use their reported deal with the Ubisoft games. If they can develop fun, first-player open-world games, it could be exciting in a new age of VR technology.
