‘Final Fantasy X’ Leads Discuss The Possibility Of Another Sequel

While it’s been nearly two decades since FF X-2 was released, fans have been waiting eagerly for FF X-3 to come into existence. Luckily, it seems like we’re peeling off a little bit more information about the sequel. In an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, translated by RPG Site, Final Fantasy X‘s key staff discussed the current state of FF X-3.

“If we are to make X-3, we somehow have a synopsis written by Nojima-san,” explains character designer Tetsuya Nomura, who has recently been busy as the creative lead of the FF7 remake. “It’s sleeping right now, but the plot itself does exist.”

Kazushige Nojima, the scenario writer of the original FF10 as well as the new sequel plot, also commented on the cultural significance of FF10. “I had the opportunity to work with people who entered the game industry after playing FF7. But now that phase has moved and now I’m going with people who entered after playing FFX,” he said.

Back in July 2019, Yoshinori Kitase, the producer of the Final Fantasy X series, attributed the predicament of making FF X-3 to the production of the FF 7 remake. “There have been no movements to realize it because, once the project begins, there is no doubt that it would become a massive project with hundreds of staff working on it. And I have an ongoing project that I need to finish before then,” he explained.

A similar concern was shared by FF10 lead Motomu Toriyama in the interview. “The probability is not zero,” Toriyama said of a Final Fantasy X-3. “But we are not in a phase where we can talk about it, unless we have finished producing FF7 Remake.” And although FF 7 remake just launched last year, given that there would be two more games before the completion, FF X-3 seems to still be a while off.
