‘God of War’ Trilogy Remake In Development As Sony Teases Franchise’s Future

Sony and Santa Monica Studio are working on a God of War Trilogy remake. While little gameplay was displayed in the announcement, this new game is set to be a complete remake of the original trilogy. Although there is limited footage and details, fans still believe this could be a project with significant potential.

This remake will cover God of War (2005), God of War II (2007) and God of War III (2010), giving a more modern feel for current players. These games defined what a cinematic action game really is, mixing in Greek mythology and rough combat. TC Carson, the original voice actor for Kratos, will reportedly return to voice the iconic character in the remake.

This announcement came with Sony’s February 2026 State of Play presentation, but without any visuals or gameplay, fans were left to speculate. Digital Foundry noted that the remake goes well beyond a simple upgrade. Along with the new remake of God of War: Sons of Sparta, a side project is available to play on PlayStation 5.

Online fan reactions have ranged from excitement to curiosity. Some fans want to revisit Kratos’ earlier story, but in a more modern style. Other fans wonder whether the remake will be faithful to the original game’s combat and level design, and there is speculation about where this trilogy remake fits into the franchise’s bigger picture after the Norse-era games.

Recent datamined files reportedly reveal future story directions for God of War after the remake is released. Former Kratos actor Christopher Judge’s comments also hint at future God of War projects that could be revealed later in the year. “Then you’ll be hearing about what we’re doing probably late summer,” he told Twitch streamer Fuzhpuzy.

No release date or gameplay details have been released so far, leaving many questions up in the air for fans to interpret for now. Expectations remain high for the franchise fans, with possible future reveals coming this summer and expectations continuing to rise.
