Alan Rickman (Professor Snape) and Daniel Radcliffe in the 'Harry Potter' films
Whether you choose Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin in the new Harry Potter: Wizards Unite mobile game, it makes no difference in terms of gameplay or story path. The four Houses are just cosmetic-varied. While fans of the series may be wanting the special abilities that come with each faction, in terms of the balance of the game, this is great news. Usually with certain classes in any type of game, users often find a loophole or a certain class that is better than the others, which causes an imbalance to the game.
The GPS tracking app works similarly to the hit app Pokémon Go that was released back in 2016 where you traveled around the world on your iOS or Android device and went to catch ’em all. In this version of the GPS tracking game, Wizards Unite has its own take. For instance, it has its own skill tree of different types of classes within your chosen faction. Auror, Magizoologist or Professor can be your options when you’re walking about the real world seeking missions and others in your same factions.
“It was really important for us to make sure players could all play together … all of those people come from different houses, and it was not an expectation that we’d ask for people to change house as it’s such an intrinsic part of you and your personality. So currently Houses are really geared around mainly cosmetic changes etc, and we’re really leaning into your uniqueness and your specialness in your professions,” Mary Casey of Warner Bros. Entertainment said, according to Games Radar. “And that really allows everyone to come together and play together and be cooperative.”
Wizards Unite launched this past Friday, and is currently available to download in over 140 different countries on iOS and Android. According to Sensor Tower, Wizards Unite has made over $1.1 million so far and has over three million downloads within its first four days of release. To compare, however, Pokémon Go knocked their release of their app out of the park. Within its four first days of release, Pokémon Go made a profit of $28 million.
