After seven years, Kingdom Come: Deliverance will finally get its sequel on Feb. 4, 2025. Fans will be relieved to know that Kingdom Come: Deliverance II will be a pretty straightforward continuation of the first game, just with improved features.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II picks up where the first game from 2018 left off with the same protagonist, Henry. Although things are looking up for Henry at the end of the first game, there simply would not be a sequel without another challenge in store for him. The game is set in a new and larger open world where the player, Henry, will complete side quests and restore honor to his good name.
Luckily for those newly interested in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, playing the first game is not essential to understanding the sequel. The game opens with a detailed introduction that makes it easy for new fans to pick up on the story.
The game takes place in 1403 and centers around the young man, Henry, who saw his home village of Bohemia get burned to the ground as a product of a civil war between two half-brothers over rights to the crown. Henry was the son of a blacksmith and became a knight in the service of Sir Hans Capon to assist the supporters of the royal brother who was not responsible for the burning of Bohemia. The developer, Warhorse Studios, is based in the Czech Republic and makes an effort to base the game around historically accurate content as the setting of the game (Bohemia) is the modern-day Czech Republic.
It’s not just the story of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II that picks up where the first game left off, but also Henry’s skills as a protagonist. In the first game, he was a poor swordsman, to say the least, and the brutal combat within the game was a reflection of that. Now, Henry is more up to the task, so the sequel will begin with a more manageable difficulty level but become more challenging and intense as the game progresses. Additionally, there is no longer a separate attack button for thrust attacks, there are four attack directions rather than five and parries will be a bit easier to pull off. Players can also block to defend attacks from multiple attackers at once, as long as the threat is in front of them.
Aside from the few combat changes, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a more polished and fuller game in general being the latest and greatest from Warhorse Studios. The details and graphics of the game are better overall, and there are not one, but two maps to explore throughout the game. So RPG fans, buckle up, you’re in for a treat with this sequel.
