‘Modern Warfare’ Is Rebooting To Become The Next Installment Of The ‘Call of Duty’ Franchise

The new installment of the Call of Duty franchise is here, and it’s back to Modern Warfare by Infinity Ward. According to Kotaku, it’s a “soft reboot” of the first one, 2007’s Modern Warfare, developed by Infinity Ward and Activision for release on October 25th, this fall. The 2007 edition of Modern Warfare was arguably the most influential installments of the franchise, launching the Call of Duty name to the top and becoming a household name.

Luckily, the rebooted Modern Warfare will feature cross-play across PS4, Xbox One and PC for the first time ever in the Call of Duty franchise, letting players on all platforms play together. Meaning that all of you and your friends are able to play multiplayer and the new co-op campaign together. Another considerable change for the reboot for multiplayer fans is that Activision will not be doing their usual season pass DLCs that blocks off new multiplayer maps. New maps and events will be for free for any of the players to download and use. This is also a first in the Call of Duty franchise.

From the recent trailer, you can see old-time-hero Captain Price returning once again, after his introduction from the original game 12 years ago, this time with a different voice actor. Infinity Ward stated that this game will feature familiar faces in the campaign, but takes place in a brand new universe, according to Gamespot.

Activision has yet to confirm what might take its place, if anything. This age of video games is filled with microtransactions, with the companies of the games making more money by creating more content for the user with DLC packs. We will have to wait and see if there are any microtransactions in the new Modern Warfare in which will effect the gameplay or not.

There will obviously be no zombies mode in this game, as that’s more of Treyarch’s style, bringing nazi zombies mode into the Call of Duty franchise with their 2008 World at War release.
