New Details Emerge For Nintendo Switch’s ‘Animal Crossings: New Horizon’

Nintendo told us weeks ago that we would see this release sometime in the month of March, and they were totally right. Thanks to a YouTube video released by Nintendo on February 20, fans are now properly informed about most of the new features that will be coming to the game.

If you have enough time, feel free to watch the 27 minute announcement video. Nintendo really puts in a thorough effort to highlight the game with real-time gameplay footage, as opposed to the cinematic trailers that dominate the internet today.

One of the new features of the game is the sheer number of players that are able to be on the same island at the same time. Up to eight players can play on the same island on the same Switch. Thus, you and seven of your friends will be able to play on the same map, at the same time! A total of four players will also be able to play in a ‘Party Mode’ together, which is an offline based game mode where the players all get to voyage around the island and rummage for any fruit or supplies they may find.

The biggest feature is the ‘Construction Permit,’ which enables players to alter and edit the lands around them. This means that players will be able to whip up mountains insert beautiful gorges and create flowing rivers, which will be fully customizable. In fact, the ‘eight friends’ feature will also be in effect for creative maps, so you and all your pals can search your lands together.

One flaw of the game, though, revolves around the ‘Save Data Cloud’ functionality. Each Nintendo Switch generates its own default island. Any users of that Switch’s game will only be able to play on that auto-generated map. If the same game is booted up into another Nintendo Switch, a new world will be rendered and created. As of right now, the game does not support the transferring of save files from one Nintendo Switch into another.

The fifth game in the Animal Crossing series will be released on March 20, 2020.
