‘Resident Evil Code Veronica’ & ‘Zero’ Remake Are In The Works At Capcom

Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero remakes are reportedly in the works at Capcom following the success of last year’s Resident Evil 4 remake.

X user Dusk Golem was the first to reveal this information, claiming both titles are “in development right now” in a post on May 27. In the same post thread, Dusk Golem denied the existence of another Resident Evil 1 remake and a Resident Evil 5 remake.

Despite not being numbered titles in the franchise, Code Veronica and Zero are mainline entries in the Resident Evil series.

Code Veronica was launched initially on Dreamcast in 2000 and was the first game in the series to utilize 3D environments. It was also the first Resident Evil game to launch on a non-PlayStation console. As the fourth entry into the Resident Evil saga, the game follows Claire Redfield, returning from Resident Evil 2 and her brother Chris Redfield, returning from the first game. Set three months after the events of Resident Evil 3; the Redfields must survive a viral outbreak in both a remote prison island and a research station in Antarctica.

Zero is notable for being a GameCube exclusive at its release, paired with a remake of the first Resident Evil title. In addition to these two games, Resident Evil 4 was also planned as a GameCube exclusive, but due to poor sales, it was later ported to the PlayStation 2. Zero is a prequel to the first Resident Evil game, following Rebecca Chambers, who had a small role in the first game and a newcomer to the series, convict Billy Coen. The game follows the traditional Resident Evil formula but with a twist. The player would control both characters throughout the game rather than lock them into separate campaigns. The player would control one character together while AI handled the other. When split up, the player could swap between characters on the fly.

Zero is available to play on modern systems via its HD remaster, but the most recent release of Code Veronica is available via its remaster on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which can be played thanks to backward compatibility.

The Resident Evil remakes have been smash hits for Capcom, with Resident Evil 2′s remake being the company’s third bestselling game. Capcom confirmed at the PlayStation Partner Awards that they planned to continue remaking the Resident Evil titles. Still, outside of these reports, there has been no confirmation on which title will be given the remake treatment next.
