The Nintendo Switch was released two years ago, and new models are reportedly in the works for the powerful handheld device that changed console and handheld gaming. According to a Wall Street Journal report, new Nintendo Switch models could come as early as this year.
Nintendo revealed earlier in 2019 that they would not be announcing any new systems during E3, and they kept their promise. With E3 over and Nintendo Direct and Treehouse live streams focusing on new games in development and software, it seemed unlikely that any models were to be announced in the coming months as these conventions are the prime spots to announce big developments that companies are working on. According to the Wall Street Journal report, two models of Nintendo Switch consoles have been entered into production in Southeast Asia. They report that the new models would feature improved features with a better screen and a fast processor. The Switch is already one of the more impressive console releases of its time, and any upgrade from its current edition would be nothing short of awe-inspiring.
According to Bloomberg, Nintendo is developing a cheaper system that would give access to more consumers. The cheaper system wouldn’t possibly run as well, but it could feature something like the Nintendo 3DS.
According to Gamespot, the manufacturing takes place in China, but overall production has moved to the Southeast of Asia because of the United States’ new import tariff bill that would increase import costs by 25% from President Donald Trump.
Nintendo denied to comment on the Wall Street Journal report.
With Nintendo developing a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the recent announcement of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt coming to the Switch, it’s unsure if Nintendo will wait for the critically-acclaimed games to be finished before releasing the new Switch model with it.
