Nintendo Direct E3 2021: Breakdown

Nintendo recently featured their upcoming content in their Nintendo Direct 2021 event as a part of E3. The highly anticipated event aired on Tuesday, introducing new content and titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Dread.

Nintendo announced a 2022 release for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 along with a teaser trailer for the game. The teaser features the addition of floating islands, along with new abilities and weapons, including a flamethrower. The sky seems to be a focus of the game, as even Hyrule castle ascends towards the clouds. This is the first update in a while for this title after it was introduced at E3 back in 2019.

Nintendo also featured Metroid Dread on Tuesday. The gameplay will be in the classic 2d style but will feature 3d models. The game will release on October 8 of this year for the Nintendo Switch. This is the first 2d Metroid game to be released in 19 years. The story will pick up where Metroid Fusion left off, as Samus explores “a strange new planet alone” and is “hunted by the ominous E.M.M.I” according to a tweet by Nintendo of America. Nintendo also revealed that they are still hard at work on Metroid Prime 4. These announcements mark the beginning of the revival of the Metroid series.

Nintendo also announced the addition of Tekken’s Kazuya Mishima into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Mishima will have similar moves as he did in Tekken, with adjustments to fit the gameplay of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. More details will be revealed in a Nintendo Direct on the 28th of June.

WarioWare: Get it Together was also given a release date of September 10. The game will feature an assortment of brief minigames and will be available in a two-player mode.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a bundle of the first three games in the series: Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2 and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. This bundle marks the 20th anniversary of the series and will be available for Switch on October 5.

Nintendo also released the first gameplay footage for Shin Megami Tensei V. The fan-favorite roleplaying game will be available on November 12 as a Switch exclusive.

Nintendo also announced a Zelda Game & Watch, which will feature Legend of Zelda, Legend of Zelda 2: Adventures of Link, Link’s Awakening and Vermin (a game with Link as the protagonist). This handheld throwback will be available on November 12 to celebrate 35 years of Zelda.

Nintendo also announced that the first two installments in the Game Boy Advance series Advance War will come to Switch on December 3.
